Working with Me

I welcome motivated students and collaborators interested in Software Engineering, especially at the intersection of software evolution, software quality, human factors, and AI-assisted software development.

At the Federal University of Ceará, I lead research activities at RESET Lab, where students investigate how software systems evolve and how developers can build better software with the support of empirical evidence, intelligent tools, and data-driven methods.

Research Interests

I am currently interested in supervising projects on:

  • AI-assisted Software Engineering
  • Large Language Models for Software Engineering
  • Software Maintenance and Evolution
  • Refactoring, Code Smells, and Technical Debt
  • Mining Software Repositories
  • CI/CD, DevOps, and Security Automation
  • Human Factors in Software Engineering
  • Developer Communication and Collaboration
  • Software Quality in Data-intensive Systems
  • Software Engineering Education

Prospective Students

I currently advise undergraduate students and may collaborate as a co-advisor for MSc and PhD students working on topics aligned with my research agenda.

I am open to working with students who are curious, responsible, and willing to learn.

You do not need to know everything before contacting me. However, it helps if you are interested in at least one of the following activities:

  • reading and discussing research papers;
  • programming and building research prototypes;
  • collecting and analyzing software repositories;
  • conducting empirical studies;
  • writing papers, reports, or documentation;
  • working collaboratively with other students and researchers.

What I Value

I value students who are proactive, consistent, respectful, and open to feedback. Research takes time, and good ideas usually improve through discussion, iteration, and careful evaluation.

Students working with me can expect regular guidance, feedback on writing and research design, support in developing autonomy, and opportunities to collaborate on papers, tools, datasets, and research projects.

How to Contact Me

If you are interested in working with me, send me an email with the subject:
